Introduction

In 1984 when David Wright was Race Director of Bridlington Half-Marathon, a conversation with Ron Hill concluded in a decision to meet in Spain the following month and experience the Benidorm Marathon/Half-Marathon.

Whilst there it was obvious there would be demand for events like this for club runners and families to enjoy so the following year we took 11 people and then in 1986 we took 33.

The group grew to almost 500 in later years and we bought a minority interest in 'The Travel Studio', a fledgling Sheffield travel agency, in 1993.

After two years the business was reorganised and David & Jennifer Wright took a controlling interest. After a period trading as 'Ron Hill Travel', Sportsresort opened a new office and the general travel business was sold.

Sportsresort was also involved in selling runners clothing and shoes and most weekends were spent at races in North of England selling clothing and publicising running holidays. In the days before the internet we published a quarterly newsletter which was always well received by clients and we still believe that regular communication is one of the keys to customer satisfaction.

In 2008 David retired from the business having lived in Cyprus since 2001 and in response to some clients requests continued to help them with their tours to Cyprus.

Sportsresort was re-launched in 2011 concentrating on promoting running and walking activities in Cyprus. David is also part of the Limassol Marathon OrganizingTeam.

Sportsresort has worked closely with Atlantica Hotels since 1997 and this long-standing relationship with this expanding group has ensured clients have tremendous value and service.

Some clients have been coming every year since 1998, and huge investment in improvements by Atlantica mean they 'lead from the front' in providing constantly improving client comforts and upgraded facilities.
